Build California is a comprehensive workforce development initiative created to inspire, engage and activate the next generation of California’s construction workforce. We do this by shaping positive perceptions of the construction industry, informing young people and their influencers about the real career opportunities in construction and connecting them to local training programs. We created the Build California e-cademy to provide a free, virtual resource for young people to explore our industry and take their interest in construction to the next step.
With the guidance of industry experts and the potential to connect to real apprenticeships and job opportunities, Build California e-cademy is your key to preparing for a successful career in construction. You’ll learn on your own time, at your own pace, and all for free. You can even gain exclusive access to real apprenticeship and job opportunities, as well as mentorship from some of our industry’s top leaders.
Nothing! All of our course offerings are free-of-charge.
There is no limit on the number of courses you may take. Take as many as you’d like to build your construction knowledge!
There is no deadline to register, as all of our courses are open enrollment, available on-demand on the web.
All of our courses are self-guided, meaning you can complete them on your schedule at your own pace.
Each course is approximately one hour in length.
Courses are taught by a variety of instructors, including industry leaders, trade school instructors, and more.
Our certificate series — comprised of four 1-hour courses — will introduce you to our industry, help you find the trade for you, explore the apprenticeship process, and ultimately leave you jobsite ready with the certificate to prove it.
While our courses don’t count directly toward school and/or college credits, they offer great value when it comes to getting an apprenticeship. Our certificate will be recognized by local apprenticeship programs and employers as indication that you are prepared with some of the knowledge needed to enter our industry.
Upon completion of the certificate series, students will gain access to career counseling with the Build California staff. Together, they’ll outline their next steps in their career journey — based on individual learnings, interests, and goals — to connect to the right mentors and path. Whether you pursue a degree, an apprenticeship, or other employment, our staff will help guide you to where you need to be.
